Lee Smith's Shop Visit

Lee Smith graciously opened his shop for the January, 2008 shop visit.  Lee's shop is spacious and well equipped.   Lee has given much thought when positioning his tools to accommodate the work flow in his shop.

During the visit, Lee gave a tutorial on several woodworking techniques include dovetail joints, multi-angled dowel joints, and cutting a perfectly fitted inlay.

Thanks Lee, for hosting.  And thanks to Bert Cueva for the shop visit photos.

Lee's Shop Layout

Many of Lee's bench tools are fitted on wheels for easy positioning.

Lee's table saw is oriented diagonally to maximize the infeed and outfeed space.

A hinged panel provides additional hand tool storage.

Adjacent to Lee's workshop is a large unfinished space used to storing lumber, sheet goods and other materials.

Shop Tutorial

Lee demonstrated how to make a dovetail joint on his router table.

Lee also demonstrated drilling for a dowel on a multi-angled joint.  The rails on the children's chair were a good example.

Finally, Lee demonstrated how to cut a perfect inlay by setting an table angle on his jig saw based on the thickness of the saw blade and the thickness of the wood.

Lee invited the visitors to his library.   The bookshelves are a fine example of his handiwork.
